Similar to the rays of the sun, radiant heat warms objects rather than air to create a more even heat throughout your home. Starting with the floor, objects are warmed giving your home a more inviting feeling as your furniture and other fixtures lose their chill. Now the common complaint of cold feet is cured by heating your floor and letting that heat naturally radiate throughout the room instead of collecting at the ceiling.

Hydronic Radiant Floor Heating Systems Hydronic under floor heating is the most popular form of radiant heat, mainly because it has been around the longest. This form of heating was first used by the Romans, but there have been significant developments since. In the most recent hydronic systems, PEX radiant tubing has been installed in a concrete mass called Gypsum Concrete or "Gypcrete." This method works very well in most applications, but there have been developments in the installation process of hydronic under floor heating that make it easier to install for certain situations. This new development is known as a low-mass or modular board underlayment system. Rather than embedding the hot water tubing in concrete, the PEX tubing is laid in the grooves of pre-cut wood panels. This new method is ideal for remodeling and most new construction projects.

A radiant heat product can be installed under these surfaces throughout the home and take the cold bite out of these areas. Never have cold floors or feet again! See our tiled section for more information. Basements are one of the top requested areas to add radiant heat. Due to the fact that forced air systems heat air and hot air rises the basement is usually the living space that remains cold. New construction is the best time to add radiant heat to a basement. BlueHeat or a Hydronics System are great solutions for adding radiant heat during the initial construction of a home. ComfortTile and Zmesh are two products that are often used if you are remodeling your basement flooring. Log Homes and Cabins are often designed with radiant heat from Warmzone. Radiant heat is a growing trend that started in Europe and is now becoming well known in North America for its distinct benefits. Instead of warming air and then circulating it throughout your home using ducts and vents, radiant heat is embedded under your floor and uses the entire floor to evenly distribute low-temperature heat. Although there are a variety of methods and technologies one can choose from, the benefits of radiant heat are the same. Here are few of most popular reasons to use radiant heat.

Radiant heat is a unique transfer of energy that naturally searches out colder objects to warm. Instead of rising like warm air, radiant heat starts by warming the coldest and closest objects from its source. This is why radiant heating systems are generally placed under floors. Comfort of Radiant Heat Have you ever strolled barefoot along the beach on a sunny day and felt the warm sand underneath your feet? Or held a warm mug? If so, then you have felt radiant heat. Objects absorb radiant heat until they are the same temperature as the heat source, after which the heat slowly escapes to other areas that are colder. Radiant Heat vs. Forced Air A good example is a car that offers two types of heat. The first is from the heating vents forced hot air and the other is from heated seats (radiant heat). Both contribute to warming the environment yet their qualities are very different. Forced hot air from the vents tends to be dry, dusty and even loud. Conversely, heated seats are comfortable, quiet and extremely effective. Electric Radiant Heat When an electric Radiant Heat system is turned on, energy is forced through a conductive material to create resistance or heat. For most areas an electric line-voltage system is used. These systems use a special thermostat that has an integrated GFCI breaker for safety right at the power source. They are available in 110 or 220 voltage. The line-voltage products we recommend are ComfortTile and BlueHeat . Low-voltage systems use the same voltages and consume the same amount of power as line-voltage products. The main difference is the use of a step-down transformer which reduces the voltage supplied to the heating materials. Due to their safe low-voltage current (8-30v) products like Zmesh can be nailed and stapled down to secure the product to the floor and are therefore useful for installation under hardwood and carpet. The low-voltage products we recommend are Z Mesh and Tuff Cable. All of our radiant heating systems offer you a choice of a thermostat that is controlled by a floor sensor to measure floor temperature or with an ambient sensor to control the actual emperature in a specific room. Radiant heat can be used and controlled as a primary source of heat or used as a supplemental heating source to add comfort to your living spaces.

Radiant heat is a unique transfer of energy that naturally searches out colder objects to warm. Instead of rising like warm air, radiant heat starts by warming the coldest and closest objects from its source in any direction. Since floors are usually cold, radiant heating systems are commonly placed under them. Radiant heat resembles the sensation of walking on sand on a sunny day or the warmth you experience while holding a hot drinking mug. These examples give you an idea how the affects of under floor heating can improve the way your entire home or specific areas like a tiled bathroom or kitchen can feel. Radiant heat has a unique way of balancing the temperature of nearby objects. Under floor radiant heating systems can transform a cold tiled bathroom to feel more like a spa, while basements or high ceiling rooms benefit from improved comfort and efficiency. When an electric radiant heat system is turned on, electricity is forced through a conductive material to create controllable levels of heat. Electric radiant heating systems come in a variety of shapes and sizes (Contact Us to suggest your best options). These under floor heating systems can be used under most any floor covering and are also commonly designed for concrete, asphalt or under pavers to melt snow and ice. Heating driveways, sidewalks or other priority areas that require snow removal are becoming common alternatives to shoveling and using harmful salts and chemicals. All of our electric radiant systems are controlled by a programmable thermostat to optimize usage based on your preferences of temperature and occupancy. These thermostats can be activated with either a floor sensor to target a specific floor temperature or programmed to a desired room temperature. Link these products below.

Objects absorb radiant heat until they are the same temperature as the heat source, after which the heat slowly escapes to other areas that are colder. adiant heat is a unique transfer of energy that naturally searches out colder objects to warm. Instead of rising like warm air, radiant heat starts by warming the coldest and closest objects from its source. This is why radiant heating systems are generally placed under floors.

Bathrooms, Kitchens and Entryways
Bathrooms, Kitchens and Entryways are ideals places to incorporate radiant heat. Tile, Marble, Slate, and even Hardwood are floor coverings that are cold to step onto with bare feet during winter or summer. A radiant heat product can be installed under these surfaces throughout the home and take the cold bite out of these areas. Never have cold floors or feet again! See our tiled section for more information.

Basements
Basements are one of the top requested areas to add radiant heat. Due to the fact that forced air systems heat air and hot air rises the basement is usually the living space that remains cold. New construction is the best time to add radiant heat to a basement. BlueHeat or a Hydronics System are great solutions for adding radiant heat during the initial construction of a home. ComfortTile and Zmesh are two products that are often used if you are remodeling your basement flooring.

Log Homes and Cabins
Log Homes and Cabins are often designed with radiant heat from Warmzone. Depending on the climate, available energy resources and their costs, Warmzone will help you select a system or combination of systems to meet the heating requirements of Log Homes and Cabins.

Driveways, Sidewalks and Patios
Driveways, Sidewalks and Patios can be kept clear of snow and ice using radiant heat. The cost to operate is less than hiring someone to shovel, and the concrete lasts longer because it is not subjected to harsh chemicals or salt. Safety is extremely important to consider for any residence or commercial environment. See our Snowmelting pages to learn more.

Wheelchair Ramps and Loading Docks
Wheelchair Ramps can become unusable and even dangerous if they are not cleared of snow and ice.BlueHeat from Warmzone is a reliable system that will solve this problem and help you conform to the strict American Disability Act both day and night. Parking Ramps and Loading Docks are often sloped and difficult to clear of snow and ice.

Roof Snow Melt and Deicing
Roof deicing products prevent the buildup of ice and large icicles around eaves, drains, and valleys, which damage roofing materials and are hazardous to people walking below them. RoofHeat, Zmesh or BlueHeat are products that can be installed on asphalt, shake, tile shingles, single-ply membrane, or metal roofs.

What is Radiant Heat? Radiant heat is a unique transfer of energy that naturally searches out colder objects to warm. Instead of rising like warm air, radiant heat starts by warming the coldest and closest objects from its source. This is why radiant heating systems are generally placed under floors. Have you ever strolled barefoot along the beach on a sunny day and felt the warm sand underneath your feet? Or held a warm mug? If so, then you have felt radiant heat. Objects absorb radiant heat until they are the same temperature as the heat source, after which the heat slowly escapes to other areas that are colder. A good example is a car that offers two types of heat. When an electric Radiant Heat system is turned on, energy is forced through a conductive material to create resistance or heat. For most areas an electric line-voltage system is used. These systems use a special thermostat that has an integrated GFCI breaker for safety right at the power source. They are available in 110 or 220 voltage. The line-voltage products we recommend are ComfortTile and BlueHeat. The low-voltage product we recommend is Z Mesh.

Hydronic under floor heating is the most popular form of radiant heat, mainly because it has been around the longest.

Radiant heat is ideal for bathrooms, kitchens, basements, bedrooms or a complete home. Unlike other forms of heat you can easily ‘zone’ individual areas. Each of these zones can be controlled by its own programmable thermostat. Now you can designate specific times of the day and desired temperatures for these areas making your home energy efficient without sacrificing comfort. Radiant heat can be used to add supplemental heat to a bathroom or throughout your home as a primary heating source. Contact a consultant at Warmzone to discuss your options.

Roof Deicing systems are one of the best investments you can make to protect your roof from ice damage. Freeze thaw conditions will form dangerous ice dams and icicles that will cause leaking and structural damage to your roof. Snow accumulation will also create heavy weight loads on a roof that are often difficult to remove and potentially dangerous. Snow and ice can now be cleared away with a well designed roof deicing system. Save money while making your home or business safer by adding a roof deicing system. The WarmTrax portable snow melting mat is an alternative to more traditional forms of snow and ice removal, such as shoveling, snow blowing, harsh chemicals, and embedded systems. Unlike the alternatives, the WarmTrax snow-mat does not require the effort of shoveling or snow blowing, preserves surfaces from harsh chemicals, and continuously melts snow and ice keeping surfaces constantly clear and safe. The WarmTrax snow-mat is a great solution for melting snow on disability ramps, steps, sidewalks, porches, and walkways. Reliability & Construction WarmTrax is extremely durable and is designed to be left outside for the entire winter season. To ensure the product’s reliability, each WarmTrax snow-mat is built and tested according to the IEEE 515.1 electrical standard before leaving our facility. In addition, each snowmat comes with a 2-year warranty. The WarmTrax snow-mat is made of an electrically operated heating element sandwiched between two protective surfaces of non-slip rubber (reinforced UV stabilized butyl rubber), making it as durable as automobile tires and allowing it to endure harsh wear. The snow-mat plugs into any standard 120V outlet, melting up to two inches of accumulated snow in less than one hour. It comes with a 15-foot power cord that plugs into standard outlets using its own Equipment Leakage Circuit Interrupter (ELCI).

To view a thermal comparison between an under floor radiant heating system versus a forced air system Click Here: Radiant Heat vs. Forced Air When an electric radiant heat system is turned on, electricity is forced through a conductive material to create controllable levels of heat.

Hydronic under floor heating is the most popular form of radiant heat, mainly because it has been around the longest.

Radiant heat is ideal for bathrooms, kitchens, basements, bedrooms or a complete home. Unlike other forms of heat you can easily ‘zone’ individual areas.
